Are You as Amazed as I Am?

Is anyone as amazed as I am that a woman who was shot in the head, only a few months ago is now able to take her seat in Congress and vote? Medical science, rehab, human will and perserverence are amazing things. Of course being a celebrity and getting the best possible care, being the kind of woman who had run for Congress and won also came into play Still ... not very long ago a wound like that would have been a death sentence or would have meant a terrible life in bed, unable to retain her capacities. Frankly, I don't know what her politics are but I know taht she's one brave, determined woman and that she had tremendous help all around. I rejoice for her.

Her politics are these: She was a Republican and switched to Democrat. She voted for the debt ceiling rise on Monday. She is a "Blue Dog" Democrat concerned with fiscal responsibility and loved by many. Dianne

Thank you, Diane. I admit that for the past few months I've found nearly all articles on American politics so obtuse, or so maddeningly illogical, I go brain dead and zone out. It's not being responsible except maybe valuing my own sanity above either curiosity or civil duty.

June -- She is a fortunate woman to have survived the attack as well as she did. I remember James Brady, Pres. Reagan's aide, and his head wound that left him with a speech problem and in a wheelchair. In fact the Brady Bill was a result of Brady's incident. Doesn't seem like the bill really helped control gun use. As you will remember the bill instituted federal background checks on firearm purchasers in the United States. -- barbara

Yes, Barbara, I also remember Jim Brady and the Brady Bill which seems to have been extremely ineffective. I can't help wondering if some ordinary person were struck by a bullet as Gabrielle was, would s/he get the kind of treatment to let them function so well? I can't help doubting it. .
